Novel Genomic Research with a Little Help From Village Dogs...

The Boyko Lab specializes in building tools and resources to uncover the genetic basis of canine diseases and adaptations, develop insights into the history and evolution, and understand the role of natural selection, mutation, and breeding practices on the patterning genetic variation in the dog genome. We are involved in diverse projects, including genetic mapping of Mendelian and complex traits, genetic diversity studies of unique landraces and free-breeding dog populations, bioinformatics approaches to elucidate the role of recombination and structural variation in shaping the dog genome, and strategies for improving the healthy lifespan of pet dogs.
